Stupidity in Retail
Mood:  on fire
Topic: Random Daily Stuff

I was sleeping today, kind of like I do every day.  However today was different, I don't remember much tossing and turning, and screaming brats outside waking me up every 5 minutes.  The temperature in the house was normal for once, not excessively hot.  I woke up around 3:30pm, which also is normal for me.  Go ahead call me lazy, call me a bum, then I'll tell you to fuck off, I work 3rd shift.

Anyhow I woke up and grabbed my phone off the headboard, and noticed, 1 missed call, and 1 new voicemail.  First thing I thought was "Hmmm, how did I sleep through my call tone, and the voicemail tone, not to mention the sound of the vibrations rattling against the wooden headboard.  (Most of us know that sound, because it usually wakes us before the phone can even ring)   Anyhow I go outside to check my voicemail, why outside you may ask?  My phone don't get reception in my house.  It could be 1 of 2 reasons, either:

A: I live in a metal trailer

or

B: It's T-Mobile.

I'm leaning towards B.  Anyhow I'm standing out on the back porch in my boxers, and a t-shirt in the middle of the afternoon, listening to a random babbling woman on the other end of the line.  She says:

"This is (Name removed) calling from Lebanon Wal-Mart.  I was calling to let you know your rings are back from being sized.  You can pick up your rings at any time."

Ok first off, fuck you, she picked Wal-Mart.  She looked in many different places, and fell in love there.  Secondly, I woke Jenn up to tell her the rings were back from being sized, she was out of bed in about 3 seconds and fully dressed.  See, she had been waiting on these rings since they were shipped off.

Well we get dressed to leave and out the door we go.  35 miles down the highway.  Well we finally arrive and head in and tell the woman at the counter

"We're here to pick up some rings"

"Last name?" she asks

I tell her and she has trouble locating them, then finally

"Ahh here they are.  You just had the 2 rings right?"

"No, there is 3" I say, getting aggravated because I know how wal-mart works and I know how this is going to end.

"I only have 1 here, looks like just the bridal rings."

"Looks like you need to look harder, I just drove 35 miles to get here."

She looks around then finds the labels, and scans them.

"Oh it looks like yours won't be in until tomorrow" she says

I'm pissed.

"Then why did you all call me today and tell me to come pick them up?"

"I know who called you and she is gone for the day"

"Of course she is.  Can you mail my ring out"

"No."

"Why?"

"We can't."

"Let me speak to a manager."

"Fine" she adds as she pages a manager overhead to come to jewelry.

After about a 10 minute wait he shows up.  He immediately starts to fill us in on the issue.  Something like this

"I know you are here to pick up some wedding rings, and only 2 of them came in.  I understand that you drove quite a ways to get here, to pick them up today.  I also know that we can't mail the rings out.  Now what can I do for you?"

Maybe not exact, but really close to that.  So I am thinking about telling him to dick off and give me my money back at this point and go to a real jewelery store, but the girlfriend would have been crushed I think.

"I drove 35 miles to get here.   I will drive 35 miles to get home.  Then tomorrow you will expect me to do it again.  I drive a truck.  An old truck.  I get about 10 miles per gallon, and gas is over 3.00/gallon here now"

"Well the way I see it, you are only driving 70 miles out of the way, the other 70 you would have had to drive anyhow"  he answers.

That's when I punched him.  Mentally only of course.

"But I am prepared to compensate you for your time and fuel" he adds.

This causes me to perk up a bit, until...

"I will give you a 15.00 gift card, hows that?"

Again, I punched him.  Mentally.

"10 miles per gallon, 70 miles.  7 gallons of gas.  Gas is 3.00/gallon, so I figure 21 bucks is what you cost me."

"Fine heres a 20.00 gift card"

We left.  Needless to say, I'm still pissed, and unhappy because our wal-marts here don't sell fuel, so I still have to come 20.00 out of pocket for that, and spend this gift card in their Marxist business.  When I return to wal-mart to pick up this other ring, I am pretty sure I will never shop in another one again.

They called me to drive 70 miles, then acted like it was my fault that the rings weren't all there.  Then wanted to "fix it" by slapping a dollar bill on like a band-aid.

It's the Wal-Mart way.
